FAQs -Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some of the more popular FAQs frequently asked questions I get asked. As more FAQs become apparent I shall be adding them here for you. However do feel free to reach out to me, Michelle, at any stage with any questions you may have. Visit my Contact Me page for all my contact information. You may have lots of counselling questions. Don’t hesitate to contact my studio by email or call.
How long is a counselling session?
Each session is 50 minutes long.
How many sessions will I need?
This all depends on what we are working towards.
I typically contract for 12 sessions. With regular reviews to make sure you are happy with your progression and how we are working. There is usually the option to add more sessions as needed. Also it can be less and is tailored to what you need and the pace at which you are comfortable to work.
I offer open ended work and have worked with people for more than a year. I also encourage taking a break and coming back after the work has been consolidated to continue looking at other things that may have come up.
Will everything I say remain confidential?
Everything you say will be completely confidential where it is safe to do so. I have a legal and ethical duty to break confidentiality in certain circumstances. For example if I have concerns around risk of serious harm to yourself or others, particularly children or vulnerable adults. I will endeavour to tell you that I intend to tell someone, who I am going to tell and why, before I do so.
Can I contact you between sessions?
To keep our work safe and confidential therapy takes place during the session time only.
If you do need to speak to someone urgently in between sessions please contact the Samaritans 116123 or Mental Health Matters 0800 107 0160
What happens if I need to cancel a session?
I would appreciate as much notice as possible if you need to cancel our session. As such email is the quickest way to do this. Additionally appointments that are missed without prior warning will incur the full fee.
Can I refer a friend or relative?
It is important that the person coming for counselling is ready and willing to engage. Sometimes this might be difficult if they have been ‘told’ to come to counselling. For that reason, I do not take referrals from current clients. However individuals are able to contact me themselves if they would like to have the initial conversation.
Can I have someone in the room with me when I have my counselling session?
Therapy works when you feel free to say anything you want to in the therapy room and leave what is said there. This is not possible if there is another person in the room and so it is important that we have private and undisturbed space when working online.
FAQs I have more questions that are not shown here?
I will be adding more answers here as questions come along. Furthermore by all means in the meantime call or email me at my studios in Canterbury or Whitley Bay. Feel free to ask any questions relating to my services as an online counsellor working throughout the UK.
